Congratulations Madison Elementary!
Spencer Thew, Dog Sled Extraordinaire
Sugar, a Siberian Husky sled dog, is mother to many of the 20 dogs that Spencer raises and trains at his home in South Colton. Spencer and his dogs have raced in several events, including the 1,160 mile Iditarod. Mr. Thew's presentation was part of the Massena Winter Carnival. Lesson in Biology
The lesson on the heart dissection allowed students an opportunity to practice their knowledge of heart anatomy, heart functions, and blood flow through the heart and lungs. Dr. St. Pierre also discussed and explained how a heart attack might occur. He showed the students how bypass surgery is performed and how a stroke might happen. Quality Assurance Focused Review The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) has initiated a Special Education Quality Assurance focused review in Massena Central School District during the 2009-2010 school year. The purpose of the review is to assess the school’s compliance with federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities as well as its ability to meet key performance indicators identified by the State Education Department related to the percentage of students with disabilities earning a Regents or local diploma. »MORE Connecting School and Community The Massena Central School District will begin offering special classes and programs to community members of all ages, possibly as soon as February. Classes will be held in the school and will be supported by the efforts of St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, local colleges, Massena Memorial Hospital, the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce, and any business who shows an interest. The survey is currently available to the community, as well as faculty and staff. The survey should help to clarify what classes people would like to as well as any additional courses that should be offered. On the slate so far are Adult Ed classes, Health and Wellness, Life Skills, Technology, and children's programs such as theater and tutoring. Click here to fill out the survey and get contact information.
